Elsie Aletha Eggers

MILES - Elsie Aletha Eggers, 84, of Miles, passed away Monday, April 28th, 2008, at the Mill Valley Health Care Center in Bellevue.

Elsie was born June 24th, 1923, in Almont, Iowa, daughter of the late Alex and Freda (Thomson) Lawrence. She married Garnet Eggers on February 14th, 1946, in Clinton. He survives.

Elsie taught rural schools for four years in the Elk River Township. She has lived on the family farm since 1952. Elsie owned and operated "Eggers Store and Lunch Room," Teeds Grove, for several years. She also had been a correspondent for the Bellevue and Preston newspapers. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1941 and attended Mt. St. Clare College in Clinton. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, Miles; the American Legion Auxiliary, Miles Post; Jackson County Women's Extension, Miles Garden Club, Cub Scout leader, Sabula Republicans Woman's Club, life member; and past secretary of the Jackson County Historical Society; she was awarded the Resident Scholar and Author in 2002, and compiled many books on history pertaining to our local area and their families.

Besides her loving husband, Garnet; survivors include their children, Gary (Prakong) Eggers, Prescott Valley, AZ, Darrell (Fran) Eggers, rural Clinton, Gene and Allen Eggers both of Sabula; five grandchildren, Tammy (Shay) Chisholm, Christopher (Danielle) Eggers, Michael (Sarah) Eggers, Jamie (Mike) Hilsenbeck, Jolinda (Pat) Burr; two great-grandsons; daughter-in-law, Geralyn McGrath; and two sisters, Edith Rickertsen and Geraldine Wilkins.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Duane Eggers; two brothers and one sister.

Private family services will be held at The Lemke Funeral Home, North Chapel. Burial will be in the Andover Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at The Lemke Funeral Home, 2304 North Second, Street, Clinton. Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or the Jackson County Historical Society.
