MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Lena M. Herrig, 89, of Maquoketa, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Crestridge Nursing Home, Maquoketa, following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. Tom McDermott officiating.Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bellevue. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haylock-O'Hara & Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where there will be a vigil service at 5 p.m.

Mrs. Herrig worked at Ensign Coil Co. in Bellevue for 15 years.

She was born on March 11, 1914, in rural Bellevue, daughter of Edward and Lena (Kueter) Berendes. She married Elmer J. Herrig on Nov. 28, 1934, in Bellevue; he died on March 15, 1980.

She a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa.

Surviving are six daughters, Vera (Joe) Leuchs, of Key West, Velma Ede, of Dubuque, Ethel (Don) Dougherty, of Peosta, Diane Hagemann, of Maquoketa, Evelyn Siegel, of Lisbon, and Colleen (Bill) Wilson, of Marion; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
