Educator-Musician,Dies,was Instructor at Kearney Normal and Knights of Columbus State Secretary
Benjamin H. Patterson, 41, head of the commercial education dept. at Kearney, Neb., State Normal and secretary of the Knights of Columbus in Nebraska, died at and Omaha hospital Monday afternoon after a month's illness.
Mr. Patterson was widely known for his civic activities in Kearney, and as a musician. He was a composer of band music and recently had the pleasure of hearing his compositions played by Sousa's band in a radio concert. He was director of the Kearney Normal band and orchestra.
He was secretary of the Kearney Kiawanis club, chairman of several civic committees and a member of the Elks.
Born and reared in Maquoketa, IA, Mr. Patterson took special training in commercial work after his graduation from Maquoketa High School. He went to Kearney Normal in 1910.
He is survived by his widow Margaret Langdon Patterson, member of a prominent Gretna family, and three children, Charles 5, Benjamin Jr. 3, and Rose Marie, 1. He was nephew of B. F. Thomas 4225 Poppleton Omaha.
Burial will be at Gretna, but funeral arrangements have not been made.
Mr. Patterson was a member of Knights of Columbus, fourth degree.
