Obituary. - Miss Ann Bartlett was born at Bloxham, Oxfordshire, England, in November, 1819, and died at the old homestead near Sterling on March 19th, 1906. She was married to Wm. Taplin in 1841, and after fifty-three happy years together, the husband passed away at the age of 72 years. They came to America with their only son, Thomas, in 1838 and settled in Jackson county where Mrs. Taplin resided until death claimed her. She was brought up in the church of England and has always been a true christian[sic].

The funeral services were held on Thursday, and interment was made in the cemetery north of her old home. Rev. Myers, of this city, delivered a most appropriate sermon and never left the main line of thought that she was one who had lived a life of devotion to the Master and was going to her reward. The music was furnished by Miss Maude Davis, Mrs. Frank Bryant and W.H. Geist. The pallbearers were H.Seaman, Frank and William Carter, D.Scarborough, M.E. Hansen and J.Hysel. The grave was beautifully decorated lined and the casket, which was a very handsome one, was laid away in what seemed to be a garden of flowers.

Mrs. Taplin was a woman of exceptionally rare abilities and in her younger days was looked upon by the neighborhood as one who was always willing to do anything in her power to assist those in distress. None ever hesitated to call upon her for aid and she was ever doing all in her power to help advance any good cause. During her declining years and since the death of her husband, she has lived with her son, Thomas, and has been in comparatively good health until recently when a complication of diseases, assisted by old age, pressed down upon her and the breath of life was crushed out on Tuesday, March 20th. All was done that loving hands could do to make her last hours on earth as pleasant as possible and she died surrounded by her relatives and the dearest and closest friends. - newspaper unknown, prob.
