Jackson Sentinel, 25 Oct 1921
Obituary - Silas Barkley, son of Mathilda and Henry Barkley, was born at Newpoint, Ind., in the year 1853. He came to Iowa with his parents in his early boyhood.

In 1877 he was married to Mary Hawkins Sutton. To this union were born four daughters: Mrs. Stella Gilbert of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Elsie Moles and Mrs. Jessie Moles of Worthington, Minn.; and Mrs. Florence Hughes of Iowa City, all of whom together with their mother, 4 grandchildren, 3 sisters and a brother of the deceased still survive.

The deceased was a member of Jackson Lodge I.O.O.F. for more than 25 years, also a member of Pope Rebekah Lodge.

He was a good husband and father; a sober, industrious citizen, who will be much missed in the home and among a large circle of friends.

Just before passing out of this life, with the feeble voice he was able to summon, he said to his faithful wife, "I am going home."

He passed from this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elsie Moles at Worthington, Minn., October 18, 1921, at the age of 68 years.

The funeral took place Friday, October 21, from the Baptist church, the pastor officiating. Interment was made in the Mt. Hope cemetery.
