DIED - Anderson - At his home in Monmouth township, on Monday, January 8th, of old age, Mr. Joseph Anderson, aged 80 years 4 months and 15 days.

Joseph Anderson was born in Bally Dugan, County Down, Ireland, in August 1803, and came to America at the age of 18. In 1840, he came from Ohio to Iowa and has been a resident of Jackson county most of the time since. He was a skilled mill-wright and superintended the construction of many of the mills in this county and the surrounding country. He was a fine old gentleman of extensive information. He leaves a widow and ten children, one of his sons, Joseph, residing in Maquoketa. His death was sudden and peculiar. He felt well and went out of doors after having spent the morning hours reading the Irish World and proceeded to clean the snow from the walks, when a few moments later his wife found him lying dead upon the ground. The doctors are of the opinion that he was completely worn out and died of old age and sheer exhaustion.
