A NOBLE WOMAN PASSES
Mrs. Malissa Sagers, A Resident of County for Over Fifty Years, Dies at Iron Hill

Mrs. Malissa Mann Sagers, a resident of Jackson County for more than a half a century, passed away at her home in Iron Hill, Iowa, on Sunday morning at six o’clock. Mrs. Sagers was born in Delaware County, Ohio, on August 16, 1835, and died at Iron Hill, on October 6, 1918, at the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 20 days. Most of her early life was spent on the farm in Ohio and on April 20, 1854, near Columbus, Ohio, she was united in marriage to John Sagers. Soon after their marriage they came to Iowa and settled in Iron Hill, where both resided until their death. Mr. Sagers passed away on April 5, 1895.

In early life Mrs. Sagers converted to the Christian faith and on September 16, 1863, she and her husband became members of the Methodist-Episcopal Church, which membership continued until the time of her death. Her husband was for many years a preacher in the Methodist Church and their home was always headquarters for Chistian work in their community.

Grandma Sagers, as she has been familiarly known to all the country round, for many years, enjoyed the respect and love of an unusually wide circle of friends and relatives. She lived to see wonderful developments from the pioneer days in Jackson County to the present and it may well be said of her “She has fought a good fight, she has finished the course, she has kept the faith.”

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sagers: Lucy E., who died in inancy, Frank, who died May 28, 1914, Mrs. George Hute and John W. Sagers of Iron Hill and Mrs. E. R. Stoddard of Maquoketa. Besides her three surviving children she leaves 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at two o’clock from the Iron Hill Church, Rev. J. J. Kidder officiating. Interment will be made in Iron Hill Cemetery.
