After a lingering illness of bronchial trouble, Mrs. John Ostert passed to her eternal home, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.A. Cornelius, Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 25, 1920. Frederica Peters was born in Micklenburg, Germany, May 17, 1849. When 7 years of age she migrated to this country with her parents settling in Tete des Morts Township, and later moving to a farm northeast of Andrew. On Oct. 16, 1865, she was married to John Ostert, a discharged soldier of the Civil war. To this union 13 children were born, five having preceded the mother in death. They moved to a farm in Fairfield township, where they resided until 1906, when retiring from farm life they moved to this city, where they resided until a year ago when on account of ill health they went to reside with their daughter. All that loving hands could do, was done, but the Master called her to her reward. In early youth Mrs. Ostert was instructed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Rembold, to which she remained true. At the time of her death she was a member of Salem Lutheran church, of the Ladies’ Aid society. She was a devoted wife, mother and Christian woman, whose kindness and generous acts will be missed by her relatives and countless friends. Surviving to mourn her loss are four daughters, Mrs. Wm. Gabel, Mrs. L. A. Cornelius, and Mrs. Lebo Burkett of Andre, Mrs. H. Peters of Hartley, Iowa, four sons John, of Maquoketa, will of Andrew, Henry of Pukwana, S. D., and Fred of Davenport besides 35 grandchildren, one great grandchild and one sister, Mrs. H. Gnade of Andrew. Funeral services were held from the late home Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. S. Bredow conducting the services. Messrs Wm., Chas, and Henry Ehl, acted as pall bearers. The floral offerings were beautiful. Interment was made in the Andrew cemetery.
