Charles Westphal Died Suddenly in His Home

After an illness of but a few days, Charles Westphal passed away in his home at 203 N. Niagara St., Maquoketa, at 1:45 o’clock Wednesday morning.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Congregational church, preceded by a short prayer service at 1:30 in the home. The Rev. T. Stuart Cleworth will officiate.

Pall bearers will be Chas. Van Gorder, Raymond Wirth, Walter Myatt, Glen Bailey, Caro Phillips and Henry Blatchley. Knights of Pythias lodge will assist in the services and burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

The deceased was born in Hamburg, Germany, Jan. 24, 1869, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Westphal. He came to this country at the age of 11 years.

He was married Dec. 18, 1890, to Emma Jebsen who preceded him in death Sept. 26, 1935.

Surviving are six sons, Arthur of Delmar, Carl, Albert, Raymond Arnold and Harold all of Maquoketa; two daughters, Mrs. Mathilda Specht and Mrs. Amanda Jaynes both of Maquoketa; 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. One son Leo, and an infant daughter preceded him in death.
