George Hyde

The news of the sudden death of George Hyde, one of Maquoketa’s old residents, which occurred at the home of his son, A. L. Hyde, at Elgin, Illinois, Sunday morning, came as a shock to his friends here who knew him to be enjoying fairly good health, but a few days before the sad news of his passing came.

Mr. Hyde, whose proficiency as a practical nurse is known to all, had cared for invalid gentlemen on Saturday and went to the home of his son late in the evening for a few hours rest. Lying down on a bed he evidently fell asleep and soon passed away without a struggle, for when his son went to call him about 1:30 o’clock Sunday morning as he had been asked to do so, the aged father was asleep in death. The remains will be brought to Maquoketa this afternoon and funeral services will be held from the M. E. church tomorrow afternoon, Rev. J. J. Kidder officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Obituary in a later issue.
