Irene WEBER, 1908-2003

"Lady Charity" has moved and is now doing the Lord's work in Heaven.

Irene Weber, the "architect of Catholic Social Services in Seattle", died at Providence Mount Saint Vincent on March 18, 2003, after nearly 95 years of love and human service.

Irene was born and spent her early years in Bellevue, Iowa. After moving to West Seattle with her parents in the early 30's, she graduated from the University of Washington, followed by professional graduate training in social work at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

Her professional career was spent at Catholic Childrens' Services, where she and Bishop Thomas Gill laid the foundation for today's Catholic Community Services. A legion of foster and adoptive children owe their formative years to her love, professional expertise, and wise administrations.

Irene has been a member of Holy Rosary Parish for over 70 years. Up until recently, she was an active particpant in services provided by the Parish St. Vincent de Paul Society, where she volunteered her professional expertise after retirement from Catholic Charities.

Irene was a "people person" who devoted her life to the vulnerable, her parents, a multitude of friends, and her community. God and the rest of us have been lucky to have had her with us. She leaves behind these friends, her professional and personal legacy, and a cousin, Raymond WILLY of Galena, Illinois.
