Angel of Death Beckons Young Wife and Mother - A young husband, a tiny cherub of eleven months and many friends and relatives have been called upon to surrender one whose life to them would have been dear; whose companionship would have been priceless and whose love would have been so deeply cherished. Untimely was the coming of the death angel, who at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Neitzel, in this city, summoned Mrs. Harry Sandin of Chicago, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Neitzel of Chicago. Mrs. Sandin was born in Maquoketa but moved with her parents to Chicago about eleven years ago. Two years ago she was united in marriage to Harry Sandin and eleven months ago a bright baby boy came to gladden the home and like a sunbeam brighten the lives of the happy parents. Some months ago the wife and mother contracted the dread influenza* and from its effects she never fully recovered and grandually[sic] failed in health until death came. The deepest sympathy of the community goes out to the parents, husband and the little motherless tot in their irreparable loss. Surviving are the husband, parents and little son, the aged grandparents, one brother, Earl, and a sister, Bertha. The funeral was held from the home of the grandparents Sunday afternoon, Rev. J.G. Morgan officiating, she being a long-time member of the Congregational church. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery. – 3 Jun 1919, Jackson Sentinel, pg 1.
* The influenza referred to is likely to have been the 1918 Influenza Pandemic.
