Reformed Pastor Dies Saturday EveningFuneral service was held in the Methodist church Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., for the Rev. C. Edward Holyoke, 69, pastor of the Evangelical and Reformed church here for the past 14 years. The Rev. Mr. Newgard, synodical secretary, of Wilton Junction, officiated and the body was taken to the Davenport mausoleum crematory.
Maquoketa Knights Templar and Odd Fellows attended the service in a body.
Rev. Holyoke had been active in Red Cross work here and was home service chairman during the war years, caring for more than 2,500 cases during the past five years.
He was on the advisory board for the Order of Rainbow for Girls; was past prelate of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the state of Iowa; was worthy patron of the Eastern Star, Maple Leaf chapter; secretary to Helion lodge, AF&AM; a member of Bath Kol chapter, RAM; Tancred Commandery; of Jackson lodge, IOOF, and of the Knights of Pythias.
He was born Aug. 28, 1876, in Evanston, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. Holyoke. He is survived by three children, Charles, of Alburnett, Edward, of Chicago; and Mrs. V. L. Holdeman, of Moline, Ill. His wife preceded him in death some years ago.
