The unexpected news of the death of Chas. F. Tubbs cast a deep gloom over this city and vicinity Friday morning. Although he had been quite sick for several days his condition was not thought to be dangerous. But truly we cannot tell what a day may bring forth. In a fine new home and surrounded by a happy family, consisting of a faithful wife and four bright children, deceased had only begun to enjoy life as it is given to mortals to enjoy, when in the very prime of life he was cut off. But those who mourn, and there are many can find consolation in the Almighty and in the fact that the departed one died as he had lived – a man of fine character and sterling worth. As a young man Charlie Tubbs never became a victim of bad habits. Grown to manhood’s estate he continued on in the same way and his fidelity to the interests of his employers was one of his most notable characteristics, and one which to no small extent contributed to his success in life. The deceased was an ardent lover of home and family and though his fidelity to industry provided well for them. Charles F. Tubbs was born in March 1858, one mile north of this city and has lived in this vicinity ever since. For 19 years he has been engaged in the lumber business, 14 years of which he worked for Geo. T. Bradley and 5 of which he has been in partnership with W. B. Sutherland. June 28, 1883, he married Miss Sarah Mole. The fruits of their union were three sons and one daughter, all of whom survive their father. Mr. Tubbs took cold when recovering from an attack of the grip and lung fever set in, ending his life in about eight days. Besides his four children, the youngest a babe in the cradle, he leaves a wife, three brothers and two sisters. The funeral services were held at the house yesterday at 2 p.m., Rev. S. Shepherd, assisted by Rev. Fleming, conducting the services. They were largely attended attesting the great esteem in which the deceased was held. Jackson Lodge, I. O. O. F., of which he was a member, attended in a body.
