Louis D. Kyarsgaard, age 102, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2009, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 P.M., Wednesday, August 26, 2009, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 12 P.M. to 1 P.M. on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa, at a later date. Louis Dale Kyarsgaard was born on December 4, 1906 in Sabula, Iowa, to Dale Kyarsgaard and Mary (Yappen) Kyarsgaard. He attended country schools and graduated from Sabula High School. He married Esther E. Gibson on June 1, 1929 in Dixon, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 11, 1998. Louis had lived in the Maquoketa area, was a farmer from 1932 to 1954, worked at Clinton Engines for 5 years and for the maintenance department of the Iowa State Highway Commission for ten years, retiring in 1969. Louis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing. Louis is survived by children, Leon “Bud” (Louise) Kyarsgaard of Monmouth, IA, Jean (Melvin) Duhme of Zwingle, IA, and Eloise (Darrel) Larson of Marion, IA; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 brothers, John, Albert and Alvin, 2 sisters, Marie and Helen, and a great-grandson. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Hospice of Jackson County.
