January 30, 1917Community Mourns Loss of Fine Young Man
Just at the threshold of life’s activity, when boyhood looks out upon the possibilities of the future from the dawn of his career, there comes over the community wherein he had been feared an exceptionally heavy gloom when the death angel commands that he leave the fair promises, the bright prospects, and ushers him into the Great Beyond, leaving hosts of friends and loved ones to mourn his untimely death.
Peter Lynch was born at Garryowen, Aug. 31, 1898, and had spent his entire life at home where there lingered an infatuation so dear to him. Last summer he was taken ill, and it was deemed advisable to send him to Chicago last September, where he could take treatment. To this treatment his condition responded splendidly, and until a few moments before his death he was enjoying fair health.
On Tuesday, January 23, he was attending to his usual duties about the farm home, when he was suddenly attacked by the old malady, and shortly after reaching the house, passed away. He had been a life-long member of the Catholic church, exemplary habits, nobility of character and happiness of disposition marked every step in his short life.
His death comes as a severe blow to all who knew him especially does the sorrow fall heavily on the mother, who was seriously ill with an attack of typhoid fever at the time of her son’s death, and who in her weakened condition fails even yet to realize that her boy has passed to the Beyond.
Deceased is survived by his mother, four sisters: Elizabeth at home; Mrs. T. J. McGinn and Sister Mary Lucidia of Chicago; Mrs. Frank Ellis of this city. Also three brothers, James of Butte, Mont., and Michael and Thomas at home.
The funeral was held from St. Patrick’s church at North Garryowen, Rev. Father Coffey officiating, interment being made in the Garryowen cemetery.
