DIED-
Mr. S. D. Tubbs, an old and well known citizen of this place, died at his residence, just north of the city, very suddenly, last Tuesday morning. He was taken with an internal hemorrhage and died in a few hours. Mr. Tubbs came to Maquoketa in 1846, purchasing an interest in the mill site then owned by Thomas Wright, and by steady industry finally succeeded in purchasing the entire property. The present large and costly building, known as the Rockville Mills, is a lasting monument to the energy and industry which characterized those first years of his life here. He was, we believe, born in Warren County, New York and was about 56 years of age. He leaves a widow and a large family of grown children to mourn his loss. Peace to his ashes.
