Death of Mrs. Shattuck.

Another Old Settler Passes Away.

At the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Edson on West Platt St., in this city, Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1907, Mrs. S. A. Shattuck passed peacefully away after a brief illness.

Rosaline A. Morgan was born Jan. 27, 1824 at Reading, Vt., where she grew to womanhood and where she was married to Sewall A. Shattuck, Nov. 18, 1844. They moved to Maquoketa, Jackson county, Iowa, in 1854, where she has since resided as one of the early settlers of this county. Mr. Shattuck died Nov. 5, 1893, aged 72 years. To this union were born four children, three sons and one daughter, of whom two children are now living, Sewall M. and Mary L., wife of W. A. Edson of this city. She is also survived by one brother, W. W. Morgan of Sidney, Iowa. Deceased was always considerate of the welfare and comfort of others and no woman was more ready to help in time of sickness or lend a hand when a neighbor stood in need of help. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren, Myrta, Bessie and Laura Edson, and grandma’s gentle spoken requests never went unheeded by them. During the past year she has gradually failed in health and she realized during the past few days that the end was drawing near and expressed herself as ready to go. Now her life work is done “like a stock of corn fully ripe,” she is garnered by the great Husbandman to await the glorious re-appearance of her Lord.

The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. M. Dana of the Congregational church will officiate. Interment in Mt. Hope cemetery.
