Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa, May 1, 1890.

DIED-

SQUIERS-At his home in Centre Junction, Jones County, Iowa, at 2 a.m., April 29, 1890, of injuries received from a runaway horse. Mr. John Squiers, aged 57 years, 1 month, and 13 days.

Deceased was born in Perry, Wyoming County, New York, in 1833, and in 1857, in the full vigor of manhood came to Maquoketa and then went to Denver where he established an overland freight line to Denver and took charge of his own wagon trains amidst the great dangers that then beset the travelers over those wild and arid plains, he met with marked success and made large profits in this and the herding of cattle.

In 1876 he settled in Maquoketa with his brother J. E. Squiers and purchased considerable land hereabouts. In 1878 he moved to a large farm in Jones County near Centre Junction, which he possessed and has ever since followed farming and stock raising on a large scale. He was a man highly respected, of kind disposition, and generous to those whom he liked, an untiring worker and a bachelor. He leaves a large estate which will pass to his four brothers and sisters, as we understand he made no will.

The remains will be brought to Maquoketa, the funeral will occur from the home of J. E. Squiers tomorrow (Friday) at 2 p.m.
