Maquoketa Excelsior, Sept. 18, 1903

Died – Pat Smith was killed at Cedar Rapids, Sept. 1, by a street car. He was driving his express wagon and attempted to cross in front of the Marion and Cedar Rapids car, which was traveling at a rapid rate. A collision ensued and Smith was hurried to the ground and under the car. When he was taken out life was extinct. Pat Smith was well known in Maquoketa. In former years he was employed by A. Hurst & Co., and was considered by them a worthy and trusted employee. Many friends here will regret to learn of his untimely end. He was in the delivery and express business for himself. He leaves a wife and daughter to mourn their loss.
