(Sabula Gazette, May 6, 1893)

On Thursday of this week Chas. Davis received a telegram from Green Island notifying him of the sudden death of his brother, John S. Davis, at that place, and upon his return Friday, gave us the following particulars of the sad occurrence: Deceased has known for a long time that his heart was badly affected, and that sooner or later death would come suddenly and without warning. For some time past he has been a little indisposed, but on Thursday morning was feeling much better than usual, and walked over to the post office after his mail. About 9:30 a.m., while standing in Mr. Hagedorn’s store, laughing and conversing cheerfully with those about him, suddenly and without the slightest warning, the grim messenger claimed its victim and another soul had solved the great problem. Death came as peacefully as it did suddenly, and no struggle or word marked the dissolution.
