Jackson Sentinel, May 11, 1905.

D. C. Clary

D. C. Clary was born in Georgia, Vermont, January 31, 1821, and was married to Jane Ballard at Swanton, Vermont, April 12, 1845. About two years later they moved to Iowa, and settled south of Maquoketa at what is called Wright’s Corners. Here they resided for eight years and then came to Maquoketa. In 1850 they took a trip to California. Mr. Clary in the early days was engaged in the manufacture of wagons and in 1867 he sold a half interest in his shops to Wilson Barnes and during the same year Mr. Barnes bought the remaining half. Since that time Mr. Clary never actively engaged in business. He has been a great traveler and was one of our highly respected pioneer citizens who will be sadly missed by his family and many old time friends. He was sick about a week and passed peacefully from this earth on Sunday morning at two o’clock, surrounded by his faithful wife and three children, Fred of Hartford, Conn., Mrs. Lucy Van Evera, living at home, and Mrs. George Cravens of Minneapolis, Minn.

Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at three o’clock, Rev. Malcom Dana of the Congregational church officiating, with interment in Mt. Hope cemetery.
