Obituary.

Mrs. Mary Phillips-Robertson was born in Essex Co., Vt., Feb. 21, 1809. She was married to Mr. Thomas Robertson, June 18, 1824. Four children blessed the home of this worthy couple, only two of whom are now alive – Stephen Robertson, of Huron, Kansas and Mrs. Edwin Maskrey, of this city. Mrs. Robertson’s home was with her family in Lawrence County. Pennsylvania until her husband’s death in 1861. For nearly seven years she has resided in this city with her daughter. Most of these years she has been an invalid, and for the last year or more, too weak to see her friends. In her childhood, she became a member of the Presbyterian Church, joining the Methodist Episcopal Church after her marriage. Hers was a religious nature, and she found great delight in the Christian life. She served the church in an official as well as in a private capacity, and was faithful to the trust imposed.

She died in great peace last Sunday evening, surrounded by her dear ones. The funeral services were held on Tuesday conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. G. Van Ness. The tired body, that had known more than eighty years of earthly life laid to rest in Maquoketa’s beautiful cemetery.
