Died.

PARIS. – William H. Paris was born January 2, 1811, in the state of New Jersey. When quite young he became a Christian and joined a Baptist church in the same state. At the age of 30 years he removed to Ohio, and in 1842 was married to Martha Woodruff. In the year 1853 he came to Iowa, and one of the pioneers, settling near where now is located the town of Elwood, Clinton county, and there he experienced the toil and struggle incident to a pioneer’s life up to the fall of 1869, when he sold his farm and removed to Maquoketa, where he has resided till he was suddenly called on the evening of Wednesday, April 2, to meet his dear Lord and Savior in that house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For a number of years he was a consistent member of the Baptist church in this city. He leaves behind an affectionate and aged companion, also two daughters with their husbands, one son, and several grandchildren, to mourn their loss.

The funeral services were held in the Baptist church on Sunday afternoon, and notwithstanding the stormy weather the building was crowded with those who respected his unostentatious, Christian character. Rev. Langridge spoke from the words in 2d Peter, 1, 14. “I must shortly put off this, my tabernacle.”
