April 31, 1890Died.
At his home, one and one-half miles south of Delmar, on Friday, March 7th, and the asthma, at the advanced age of 76 years and 6 months, Mr. Joseph Benjamin.
Mr. Benjamin came west from New York State, where he was born Aug. 19, 1813, in the early fifties and as a result of energy and application on the farm, which he originally purchased from the government. He succeeded in accumulating a considerable property. He was married to Miss Loretta Brewster in 1843, and three sons – Fidelio, Walter and Isaac – were born to them. Fidelio, the eldest son, died at Vicksburg in the war, during the year ’63, while Walter and Isaac remain in the same community to mourn with their mother the loss of a kind and Christian husband and father. The funeral occurred on Sunday and was largely attended by relatives from abroad and friends at home. A beautiful floral tribute was received from relatives in Chicago.
