Jackson Sentinel, October 15, 1920.

MONMOUTH-

David Alexander Wyrick was born in Wytheville, Virginia, July 28, 1840, and departed this life October 8, 1920. He was the child of a family of several sons and daughters and spent the years of his early manhood in his native state. He was 21 years of age the spring that the war broke out and he naturally joined the southern army, which was marshaled under the generalship of R. E. Lee, the foremost leader that the Confederacy produced. He cherished a high regard for his leader, continuing in active service during the period of the war. The year following the close of the war an older sister, who had come north, returned south on a visit, and thru her influence, he was persuaded to come north, settling in Jones County, Iowa, The war had broken up his plans for further schooling than he enjoyed in his native state, so he took up the work of further preparation by attending the public school at Wyoming and later Cornell College, which he attended for several terms. After finishing his schooling he engaged for some twelve terms in teaching country schools. He had also pursued some studies in vocal music and having some talents in this line conducted several classes in vocal music. He was fond of music and always joined enthusiastically in this part of the worship in God’s house. He was united in marriage July 4, 1872, to Miss Phoebe Pence and together they had journeyed along life’s path for over 48 years. Mr. Wyrick was converted during the pastorate of Rev. M. A. Goodell in the early eighties and at once identified himself with the church here where he continued his membership for the remainder of his life. Until his failing health prevented him from doing so, he was a teacher in Sunday School. He was a good father, a trustworthy husband, a worthy citizen and he will be missed in all these relations of life, where he has moved for so many years. He is survived by three brothers and two sisters, three of whom are residents of this vicinity. Besides these the wife, two sons and a daughter are at home, while three granddaughters are with them to keep green his memory and cherish the influence of his life and example. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church Sunday morning, Rev. C. L. Gould officiating. Burial was made in the Pence Cemetery.
