Obituary

Frank H. Lockwood was born in Clinton county near Riggs on April 19, 1860 and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lockwood. He was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Little of Nashville on Nov. 29, 1881. This union was blessed with one son and one daughter, Myron of Maquoketa and Mrs. Gould Allison of Marshalltown. Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood spent the first years of their married life in Maquoketa and later moved onto a farm near Nashville where they lived for a number of years. They then spent five years in southern Iowa, and returning to Maquoketa have since resided here with the exception of a brief time spent on a farm in Minnesota.

Mr. Lockwood was an honored member of the I. O. O. F. and M. B. A. fraternal orders of which he took an active interest and held positions of trust. He was marshal of Maquoketa under two administrations and filled this office with conscientiousness and efficiency. He was a man of quiet manners and had a host of friends who mourn his tragic death on May 18, 1918.

Besides the sorrowing and bereft wife and children one grandson, Max Lockwood Allison survives. Also his aged and feeble mother; Mrs. Joseph Dawson and three sisters, Mr. Lou Poff of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Ed. Melish of Oxford Jct. and Mrs. Bert Black of Shellsburg and one brother, Will Lockwood of Maquoketa. Many friends mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held from the home on North Olive street on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock and sermon at the Congregational church at two o’clock, Rev. D. F. Boomershine assisted by Dr. J. G. Morgan, officiated at the services. Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery. The Daughters of Rebekah and I. O. O. F. orders attended the services in a body and the latter had charges of the services at the grave.
