Dunham – At John Downing’s home in Andrew, Monday morning, Oct. 7, 1889, of general debility, Squire James Dunham, aged 77 yrs., 1 mo., 10 days.
He was born in Mercer county, Pa., in 1812, and came to Jackson county in 1850 and entered the land that he owned to the day of his death. For seventeen years he ran a ferry over the river which became known as Dunham’s ferry. He was a rigidly honest and unswerving Jacksonian democrat, who was often elected to office in his township and always performed his duties conscientiously. Through decrepitude he was obliged to retire from farming some years ago. He furnished two sons for the Union Army, one of whom lost his life. He was a member of the Baptist church during his long life. In his demise he leaves a wife and five children who keenly feel the loss of a good husband and father.
