Jackson Sentinel, January 27, 1881.

W. R. Wait passed in his checks, as it is sometimes called by the vulgar, last week. He was an old settler, who settled near Buckhorn, but of late dwelt near here. It is said the old man was badly stricken with remorse just before his death, confessing to some of the very darkest crimes that were ever recorded of man, which we will defer relating for the present, except that he exhonerates uncle Shade from burning his barn, which was thought by some at the time was done to obtain the insurance money. But in a penitent state one of his desires was for uncle Shade to forgive him.
