Services for Dr. Paul L. Gjerstad, 36 of Maquoketa, were held Friday, Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church.
The Reverend Harold Kumpf officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Dr. Gjerstad died Tuesday, Dec. 7 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, after a brief hospitalization.
He was born April 29, 1940 in Buffalo Center to Lawrence and Myrtle Helgren Gjerstad.
On Oct. 31, 1968 he married Judith A. Wolf at Carmel, Calif.
Dr. Gjerstad, a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine, had practiced in Maquoketa for over six years.
He was a member of the Jackson County Medical Society, a former chief of staff of Jackson County Public Hospital, a member of the hospital medical staff and a member of the Jackson County Board of Health.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Rebecca; three sons, Matthew, Nicholas and Nathan, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Gjerstad; two sisters, Mrs. Ronald (Joan) Jacobs and Mrs. Roger (Lois) Halberson, all of Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Carson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
