Services will be held today, Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1:30 p.m. for A. W. Sokol, 90 of Maquoketa.
Mr. Sokol died Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Mercy Hospital in Davenport.
The Reverend Alfred Burlingame will officiate at the services at Carson’s Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
A. W. Sokol was born June 26, 1886 in Baldwin to Joseph H. and Carrie Keller Sokol.
On Dec. 15, 1956 he married Marguerite Henry in Maquoketa.
He attended grade school in Baldwin and high school in Maquoketa.
Mr. Sokol attended Boulder University at Boulder, Colorado and Received a law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1911.
He started practice in Maquoketa with Frank Kelsey and continued that practice until 1975 when he retired.
He was an attorney in Maquoketa for many years and served as mayor for three terms, 1945-51.
Mr. Sokol was a 50 year member of the Helion Lodge of Maquoketa and a 50 year member of the Grand Chapter of Arch Masons, Clinton.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Ray, Maquoketa; Donald, Oakville, California and Richard, Virginia Beach, Virginia and ten grandchildren.
