A Good Woman Called Home.
Mrs. Melissa Tubbs Passes Away on Wednesday Morning.
Funeral will be held This Afternoon.

Mrs. Melissa Tubbs, after a long illness passed away Wednesday morning at 7:40 o’clock at the home of her daughter. Mrs. H. H. Penrose on Otto street.

Mrs. Tubbs, whose maiden name was Melissa Sherman, was born in Lake George, N. Y., on April 13, 1845. When 17 years of age she came to Maquoketa and on March 30, 1863, was united in marriage to Harris Tubbs. Mr. Tubbs died on July 25, 1903.

Mrs. Tubbs was a devoted mother, a kind neighbor and a true friend. Although she had been confined to her room for many months, she bore all suffering with patience and bravery.

She was the mother of nine children, Mrs. Lottie Eaton, who passed away January 3, 1899, Mrs. Addie Philips of Crookston, Minn.; Mrs. Lena Hodgins of Cedar Rapids, Fred Tubbs of Elwood, Mrs. Hattie Stange, Mrs. Ida Penrose, Frank, Sherman and Bruce, all of Maquoketa. Also four sisters and one brother survive. Mrs. Charlotte Phelps of Lake George, N. Y.; Mrs. Julia Clausen of Fort Miller, N. Y.; Mrs. Hattie Rogers of Fort Miller, N. Y.; Mrs. Anna Durham of Pawlette, V.T., and Ed. Sherman of Fort Miller, N. Y.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at two o’clock at the H. H. Penrose home, Rev. D. F. Boomershine will have charge of the services. Interment will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery
