Richard Wing Dies Suddenly of Apoplexy

While seated at the supper table at the county home near Andrew, Richard Wing who was taking treatment at the institution, was stricken with apoplexy, expiring before medical aid could be summoned. Mr. Wing had been for many years a resident of Jackson county and was a man of industrious and honest habits. Some time ago his health failed him and deeming it best that he be taken to an institution where proper medical treatment could be administered, this was done, but it seemed that the malady had gained the upper hand and all that could be done was afforded to him every comfort until the end came.

Obituary

Richard B. Wing, son of Archibald and Grace Wing, was born in New York State April 6th, 1855, and died near Andrew, Iowa, Oct. 30, 1917, aged sixty-two years, 6 months and twenty-four days. When eleven years old he came with his parents to Iowa. They settled on a farm east of Maquoketa where Richard grew to manhood. Nov. 28, 1887, he was united in marriage to Emma Briggs. They followed farming until about six years ago when they moved into Maquoketa. Eleven children were given to them, all of whom are living and all present today except Edwin of California. The children are Albert, Arthur, Ira, Mrs. Anna Wing, of Preston, Edwin of California, Henry, Wilmer, Grace, Gladys, Vernard and Dale. All but two live in or near Maquoketa. Mr. Wing’s health began to fail about four years ago. Through all these years his faithful wife has been his constant companion and helper. Mr. Wing spent his life in this community and has always lived an upright life. He was a kind father and loving husband and had great reasons to be proud of his family. This large family of children will surely be a great comfort to the bereaved wife and mother, and be able to minister to her needs and fill her days with the well-earned comforts of life. The love and sympathy of friends and neighbors is hereby extended to the family in their sorrow.

Short service will be held at the late home in the First ward Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock, funeral service at the M. E. church at 2:30, Rev. J. J. Kidder officiating. Interment will be made in Mt. Hope.
