David Brickner

David A. Brickner, 51 of 505 S. Niagara St., Maquoketa Community School Board member, died Thursday, Oct. 11, of amyloidosis at Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa with the Rev. William Palmquist officiating Military graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah with the Rev. Delbert Dawes of Maquoketa officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at W. G. Carson & Son Funeral Home in Maquoketa.

Mr. Brickner was born March 12, 1933 in Decorah and married Audrey Rosendahl on June 28, 1953 at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in Decorah.

He worked for his father at S. E. Brickner & Son in Decorah, then joined the Department of the Army as a civilian technician for Company B, 389th Engineers Battalion in Decorah in 1964.

In September of 1971 he and his family moved to Maquoketa and he worked at Headquarters Company of the 389th Engineers Battalion in Dubuque as supervisor of civilian technicians for the battalion.

He retired June 1, 1984 as chief warrant officer IV for the Army Reserves after 30 years of service.

He served two years on active duty with the Army from 1954 to 1956.

He was a scoutmaster, in Decorah and was active in the Lutheran Church in Decorah and Maquoketa, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church council member and singing in the choir. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He served five years, from 1979 through September 1984, on the Maquoketa Community School Board. During that time he served one year as vice president and one year as president.

Survivors include his father; his wife; two sons, Daryl of Davenport and Daniel of Manchester; one daughter, Beth of Cedar Falls; three sisters, Nancy Gwynne of Spokane, Wash., Marjorie Johnson of Edina, Minn., and Carolyn Flaskerud of Decorah; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
