February 23, 1940Funeral Services Held At Delmar For Mrs. Albert Whaley
It is with sorrow that we are forced to report the passing of Mrs. Albert Whaley early Sunday afternoon in the City Memorial hospital in Maquoketa, where she had been critically ill with pneumonia for the week previous.
Mrs. Whaley had not been in rugged health for some time, but was not believed to be in a serious condition until her removal to the hospital for expert medical care and treatment, where all that was humanly possible was unselfishly done for her, but she was in too frail a condition to cope with the dread disease and she finally fell asleep to awaken in eternity.
Mrs. Whaley has been a resident of Delmar since her early childhood and during her matronly years has been generally respected and admired for her fidelity to home interests and unselfish devotion to her family and dependability as a friend and neighbor.
Mrs. Whaley is survived by her aged husband, one daughter, Mrs. Martin Boysen, two idolized little grandsons, Jackie and Carlos Boysen, and one sister, Miss Margaret Watters, all of Delmar, besides many near relatives here and elsewhere, who deeply deplore her passing.
Frances Watters, daughter of the late James and Ellen Watters, was born August 28, 1875 near Delmar, Iowa. She was married April 24, 1908 (?) to Albert Whaley in St. Patrick’s rectory in Delmar, where they have lived continuously during their married life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Minnie, and one daughter, Frances, who passed away in 1928.
The funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Feb. 20, in St. Patrick’s church in Delmar, of which the deceased was a faithful and zealous member, the pastor, the Rev. J. J. Hopkins celebrating the requiem mass and delivering the comforting sermon.
Chosen as pall bearers were Thom Costello, Will Watters, Louis Hanrahan, James Watters, Harry McClimon, and James McDermott. The burial was made in the family lot in St. Patrick’s cemetery, Delmar.
