Maquoketa Excelsior, September 2, 1882.

-Hiram Beggs of Delmar, recently employed as brakesman on the C.M. & St. P. road, was killed by the cars near Monticello on Thursday last. He was last seen on top of his train as it moved from Monticello. A train following found his remains scattered along the track. It is supposed he was knocked off by the bridge over the Maquoketa, and falling, 22 cars passed over him. The head was badly mashed, both arms and both legs severed and the trunk mangled. The funeral took place at Delmar on Friday. Mr. Beggs was a worthy young man and was to have been married in a short time to a young lady of Delmar. – Record.
