Anna Jensen was born in Fredericksburg, Denmark, Dec. 9, 1848. She was baptized in infancy and was confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church at the age of 14 years, of which church she was a loyal adherent until her death.

Early in 1871 she came to America and was united in marriage to Mr. Jorgen Jorgensen in Clinton, Ia., on June 13, 1871. They located in Lost Nation, where Mr. Jorgensen was engaged in business for a number of years, where she resided until their removal to Mitchell, S. D., in April, 1906.

She was the happy mother of seven children, viz: Thorwald, who died in young manhood, Mrs. Agnes Myatt of Elwood, Ia., Harold and Arthur of Mitchell, S. D.; Alfred, who died in childhood, Clara of Mitchell, and Victor of Draper, S. D. Mother Jorgensen was proud of her children and enjoyed nothing more than to have her children home around the fireside. Her worthy, devoted children appreciated this and clung to her and the home until full maturity, which bound them all closely in the true family circle.

She was of a quiet, motherly disposition, true friend and good neighbor and loved by all who knew her. Her hospitable nature made it a pleasure to be in her home and enjoy her sociability and interesting home and family. After her removal to Mitchell, she made a number of visits to Elwood to visit her daughter and to Lost Nation to visit old friends and neighbors, all of whom were always glad to see her.

Her health began to fail some months ago, and instead of improving she grew weaker. She bore patiently her sickness and suffering until release came when she passed peacefully away on Tuesday morning, at seven o’clock, March 12, at the mature age of 69 years, 3 months and 3 days. Besides the sorrowing, aged husband and family, one sister, Marie, in Denmark, and a large circle of friends and relatives survive to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and fond mother, and congenial friend and neighbor. She has gone to her reward and has entered into rest.

Funeral services were held in Lost Nation Friday, March 15, prayer at the home of Mr. Jorgensen, a brother of the bereft husband, at 1:30 p.m. and sermon at the Union church at 2 p.m. by Rev. D. F. Boomershine, where a large circle of admiring friends and relatives gathered to express sympathy to the living and pay last earthly tribute to the departed. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Burial was made in the Lost Nation cemetery. The body was accompanied from Mitchell to Lost Nation by the husband, J. Jorgensen, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Myatt, Harold, Arthur, Clara, and Victor, members of the family. They will remain a few days to visit with old friends and neighbors before returning to their homes.
