James D. Rawlins died at his home in Guilford, near Galena, Ill., last Friday, at the age of 92 years. Mr. Rawlins had been a resident of Jo Davies county since 1827, and his death occurred in the house where he had lived since his marriage in 1828, and where his wife died two years ago Saturday. He was a veteran of the Black Hawk War of 1832, and father of the distinguished Gen. John A. Rawlins, chief of staff to Gen. Grant, afterwards Secretary of War, and until his death the closest friend and adviser of Grant. Among the surviving children are W. D. Rawlins, a lawyer of Chicago.
