May 19, 1897-Capt. Leverett Gray Randall, a valiant Union soldier, who went to the front in many of the most stirring battles of the Rebellion, and commanded the fleet of Mortar boats before Vicksburg, died at his home in Napoleon, Ohio, May 14th, aged 66 yrs, 9 mos., 4 days. With short intervals his home had been at Napoleon for 47 years, and besides his army positions he had been honored by President Arthur with the postmastership at his town, and later by President Harrison with his choice of postmaster of a position in the Interior Department, which latter place he chose. He was an earnest, honest and popular man, prominent in Masonic councils of his state and in local affairs. A wife, two sons and a daughter survive him, and in their sorrow have the sympathy of many friends. Mrs. Randall’s maiden name was Angie Swigart, youngest sister of W. C. Swigart, of this city. It was a comparatively short time ago that Capt. Randall and his wife visited their Maquoketa relatives.
