Hank Robbins, the mail carrier between Miles and Van Buren, was found dead in the highway near Mr. Cuttell’s farm at about 4 o’clock on Thursday afternoon. He had been to Miles and had taken the mail to Van Buren and was returning with his mail bag on horseback. Mr. William Crawford saw him pass and knowing that he was at any time liable to fall dead from the effect of heart disease which he has had some time, noticed his position on the horse that he was not guiding the animal, and followed after him. He fell from the horse in a few minutes after Crawford started. The horse came into town and Mr. Lee and Warren Kellogg took a team and went hastily in search of the rider whom they found lying on his side in the road dead. The color of his face and the frothing at the mouth showed to those who knew him that he had had one of his severest attacks which finished his earthly career. The body was taken to Dr. Amos’ office ready for the action of the coroner. Mr. Robbins has a wife but no children. He was a soldier in the late war, and during service for his country had an attack of black measles which left his system in a bad condition. His sudden death is really no surprise to those who have known of his physical condition. The Alf. Scofield Post will see that he is buried with military honors. We will give the report of the coroner’s inquest and other particulars next week.
