CLARY: - At his home in this city, Oct. 2, 1903, of dropsy, Hiram M. Clary, aged 80 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Deceased was a pioneer of this county, coming here 55 years ago. Born in Georgia, Vt., May 20, 1823, he was married in 1852, to Phoebe Ann Palmer. To this union five children were born, of whom, with the wife, three survive – Olive, wife of Levi Pierce, and William of Woodbury county, Nellie, wife of Wm. Foster of Clinton county, Henry who resides with his parents. Deceased was a farmer most of his life and an industrious, temperate man. He was a member of the Maquoketa M. E. church over fifty years and a trustee when the new church was built in 1876. He died trusting in the Savior’s power to save. The funeral was held from the house Sunday and in the absence of the regular pastor, the Rev. Mr. Lockard, of Anamosa, officiated.
