Elwood Man Takes Life by Hanging

A pall of gloom was cast over Elwood and vicinity Sunday, when it was learned that S. A. Bloore, a farmer about 60 years of age, who lived two miles north of Elwood, had committed suicide by hanging early in the afternoon.

He and his wife had been invited to the home of their son, a distance of about a mile, to help celebrate the birthday of their little grandson. Soon after dinner, while his son had gone to Elwood on an errand, Mr. Bloore remarked that he was going to the barn to see some cattle. When his son returned an hour later he went to the barn and found the lifeless body of his father hanging by a rope in the hay loft. A note was found in his pocket stating that his family was in no way the cause for his act, that only he was to be blamed.

It is very evident that he had been making plans to this effect for some time, as he had carefully arranged all business matters including the transfer of his home farm to his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Winsor, which took place last week, and had deeded a farm to his son.

Besides his widow he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Beach of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Chas. Winsor of Elwood, and one son, Lee, also of Elwood, and three grandsons.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed, awaiting the arrival of relatives from a distance.
