WRIGHT – At his home in Maquoketa, about 8 o’clock, Sunday evening, Jan. 3, 1892, Mr. Alfred Wright, of paralysis, aged 87 yrs., 5 mos., 26 das. Born in Warren county, N. Y., he was in March, 1828, married to Miss Sally Bentley, at Queensbury. In 1841, with wife and three children, he moved to Iowa and opened a farm at what is now known as Wright’s corners, two and one-half miles south of this city. In 1864 he moved to Maquoketa and engaged with his brother Thos. Wright in the manufacture of woolen goods, in which business he remained until the 70’s when he retired. His wife died Feb. 2, 1878, at the age of 70 years, Dec. 6, 1879, he was married to Mrs. Jane Pike, sister to his first wife, and she survives him, as do two of his children, Mr. R. S. Wright and Mrs. J. L. Currier, of this city. Deceased was a rugged pioneer who suffered many of the hardships of the early days in Iowa and won success. He was hospitable and social, rigidly honest and had a large circle of friends and acquaintances. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon with interment in Mt. Hope cemetery, Rev. T. S. Oadams officiating.
