December 30, 1921Aunt Jane Brown Passes Away at the Ripe Old Age of 93
Mrs. B. J. Brown was born at Dresden, Washington county, N. Y., in the year 1828. The first 23 years of her life were spent in New York state. In the year 1846 she was married to Andrew M. Brown. To this union was born a son, W. F. Brown, who survives his widowed mother, and is well known in the city of Maquoketa.
In the year 1851 Mr. and Mrs. Brown, with their son, moved to Jackson county, Iowa, and settled in Maquoketa, where Mrs. Brown has lived for the last 70 years.
In the year 1854 Mrs. Brown united with the First Baptist church, where she has been a devoted member for 67 years.
For the last 30 years Mrs. Brown has been a sufferer, during which time she has sustained a long, tedious but heroic struggle. The battle came to a close at last when on Monday, December 26, her spirit took its flight.
Mrs. Brown was a splendid example of patience and cheerfulness during all the long years of trouble. She won to herself a host of friends, who honored her for her heroic Christian life.
Mrs. Brown reached the ripe old age of 93 years. This age is the more remarkable in view of all the years she had been handicapped with physical limitations. The only surviving nearest of kin are Mrs. Wm. Shrigley, sister, and Wm. F. Brown, a son.
The sympathy of the many friends who loved Aunt Jane, as she was familiarly known, is extended at this time to those who mourn her loss.
The funeral took place on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. from the home on Dearborn street, with Rev. L. Elgin Brough, her pastor, officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
