Vera H. Gray, age 92, of rural Sabula, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008, in Tavares, Florida. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, Iowa, with Reverend Robert Krueger of Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, officiating. Visitation will be held at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston from 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery in rural Sabula, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established in Vera’s name. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com . Vera was born on July 14, 1915, in Howard County, Iowa, to Henry and Minnie (Brockney) Hunemiller. Vera graduated from New Hampton High School in 1933. She married Kenneth Eugene Gray on October 22, 1942. Kenneth passed away on June 18, 2006. Vera was a homemaker and farmed with her husband until he retired in 1980. She was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran Church and a member of the Ruth Circle. She served on the Stewardship Committee and numerous other church committees. She was a long-time member of Band Boosters and other parent organizations affiliated with Miles Elementary and Miles High School. Vera engaged in bird watching, flower and vegetable gardening and crafts. She was an excellent cook. Vera enjoyed visiting art and craft shows with her husband, Kenneth, while spending winters in Florida. She also enjoyed visiting with her family and friends. Vera will be dearly missed by her daughter, Norma (Jim) Emerson of Tavares, Florida; and her son, Dr. Richard Gray of Austin, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Vera is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie Hunemiller; four brothers, Leonard, Alfred, Arthur and Elmer; two sisters, Grace Palmersheim and Luella Buhr; and her husband, Kenneth.
