March 28, 1958Carl Hartvigsen, Retired Farmer, Dies at Age 87
Carl C. Hartvigsen, 87, retired Maquoketa area farmer and a resident of this community almost 70 years, died Tuesday in a local nursing home. He had resided with a son, E. J. Hartvigsen, until recent months.
Funeral services will be held this (Friday) afternoon at two o’clock in the First Congregational church. The Rev. J. Mace Crandall, pastor, will officiate and burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery. The Haylock-O’Hara funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hartvigsen was born June 6, 1870, in Hoderslev, Denmark, son of Jeppe and Johanna Hartvigsen. He came to the United States and the Maquoketa area in 1890. On Jan. 20, 1898, he married Anna Kier in Maquoketa. His wife died in 1920.
He is survived by two sons, E. J. “Ep” Hartvigsen of Maquoketa and L. P. “Swede” Hartvigsen of Sarasota, Fla., and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Walter, two sisters and two brothers, in addition to his parents and wife, preceded him in death.
