Maquoketa Weekly Excelsior, December 11, 1873.

DIED

At the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. J. H. Gilfilan, in this city, on Friday December 5, 1873, Mr. Luke Ewers, aged fifty-nine years.

Mr. Ewers was born in the state of New York in 1814, went to Canada in 1832, and from there removed to Iowa in 1852. For the past twenty-two years he has resided in this vicinity, a respected citizen. He was a man of all things, honorable in the highest degree, and beloved by all who knew him. An honest man has gone to his reward.
