DIED-

REITER- At his home in the First Ward, Thursday, Sept. 25, 1902. Manasses Reiter, after a short illness, aged 91 years, 6 months and 12 days.
The deceased was born in Lancaster County, Penn., March 13, 1811. In 1838 he went to Trumbull County, Ohio and settled on the land where later he founded what is now the city of Niles-the city which is honored as being the birthplace of the late president McKinley. Mr. Reiter also built the house in which Mr. McKinley was born. In 1869 he moved to Maquoketa where he has since lived.
The deceased has been married three times, the first to Eliza White on July 4, 1831, the second , Clarissa Manley, Dec. 1, 1853, the third and last time to Maria Jane Isbell, May 21, 1873, who survives him. Eighteen children were born, of which to these unions three daughters and seven sons are now living, four in Ohio, two in Montana, three in Iowa, and one in California.
Of these, one daughter, Mrs. J. S. Scholl of Monticello, Iowa, J. E. Reiter of California and Frank Reiter, the youngest, of this city, are by the last marriage. The wife survives him to mourn his death.
The deceased was an honest hard working man and had the respect of all who knew him.
Notwithstanding his more than four score years and ten, he was active as many men of seventy, and until a few days before his death, was on the streets every day.
The funeral was held at the house Friday afternoon, Rev. Young of the Episcopal Church officiating and remains interred in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
