Feb. 11, 1905.Caroline E. Blaine was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, Nov. 9, 1834. After one week of sickness of pneumonia, she passed to the other shore at 1 o’clock a.m. Jan. 15, 1905, aged 70 years 2 months 5 days. On Sept. 27, 1835, she married J. K. Bowman and soon after came to Iowa, locating on the farm where they have since lived. She was the mother of ten children, six of whom – Chas. of Maquoketa, Jesse in Clinton county, Jefferson on the home place, Mrs. Albert Sellers of Maquoketa, Mrs. Walter Ogden living south of town and Mrs. Walter Bowman, west of town, survive her. The center of her power and influence was her love of home and family. Here was centered her highest conceptions of duty and the ideals of her hopes. She was a good and kind neighbor, a true and loving wife and mother. Her presences here will be missed, but a restful peace is hers to enjoy, and the consolation and comfort of the bereaved husband and children. Funeral services were held at the home 3 miles southeast of town on Wednesday last at 10 a.m., with interment at the Union church cemetery, Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiating.
