Lucy Jones Drowns in River

Body of Drowned Child Found Nears Gordon’s Ferry

As was feared, Lucy Jones, 6 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Jones, met her death Memorial Day in the Mississippi River near Dubuque.

The body of the child was taken from the river at Gordon’s Ferry, 14 miles below Dubuque at nine o’clock Friday morning. It was discovered by Milwaukee section men.

The Jones family lives in a house boat opposite Eagle Point. A gang plank extends from the boat to another nearby. This is used by members of both families in visiting back and forth. There is also a plank to the shore. When the child disappeared Tuesday, a search was instituted. The surrounding hills were scoured and the river dragged, but without results.
